 James Scarcella, born 1957 ,  native Staten Islander  eldest of 6 kids of James &  Anna Scarcella, orig.  from Rosebank
 
 Grew up  fishing  crabbing seine netting and swimming  around Great Kills harbor, Crescent beach, the Cattle Barge, sandbar, went to St. Clare's elem,  and Msgr. Farrell High School
 
 Graduated  HS  in 1975
 
 Attended and received an Asso in Applied Science  from College of Staten Island
 Civil service employee
 
 Started with SI friends of Clearwater around 1989, meet future wife, Margaret, that same year, joined Protectors and Baykeeper in 1990 after the Arthur Kill Oil spill that year.
 
 Founding member of Mariners Marsh Conservancy, Coalition for South Beach Pond Park Preserve (Bluebelt) and North Shore Waterfront Conservancy of SI Inc.
  invited to join the NRPA Board by Ralph  Pastore, Steve Gross and Matt Pavis  Cindy Zipf  in 1995  ,
 Met and befriended NRPA  Chair  Kerry Sullivan in 1998,  Vice Chair IDA Sanoff in 2000  
 
 With NRPA and Baykeeper, SI Sport Divers (Tony Rose)   and Save The Bay (Jim Kelly) defeated the toxic Containment Island,
 
 honored by NYC DPR, DEP  Protectors, FCA,  Baykeeper, and SI Chapter of the Daughters of the Amer Revolution for Environmental advocacy and action
 
 Since then numuerrous accopluishments with NRPA and  NSWCI, and going stong with friends family and associates ,  Wife Margaret, son Christopher  is 12    

DEP's Beach Floatable Survey Program Helps Keep City Beaches Clean

As part of the Department of Environmental Protection's Beach Floatable Survey Program, Jim Scarcella is one of 60 volunteers who monitor the man-made litter that washes up on city beaches.

Residents Try To Stop Sprawl On Great Kills Waterfront

Hoping to stop construction of more houses adjacent to a park on the Great Kills waterfront in Staten Island, local residents and environmentalist are lobbying the state for funds to buy back land from two developers.
